Welcome to the Small Mammal Welfare Awareness Association. Our aim is to improve the care of small mammal pets, mainly rabbits and rodents, and raise awareness of their needs. We do this through direct contact with the public and by petitioning pet shops, parks where small mammals are kept and the government.

Small mammals make up a large percentage of the nations pets but few people are truely aware of the needs of their pets. Many people ask about how to care for their pet when they buy it but this is not always very reliable as pet shops often do not give correct information. There are two reasons for this, the first is that they simply don't know and the other is that their main goal is to part you from your money.

The Small Mammal Welfare Awareness Association does not encourage breeding your pet as this can often result in the death of mum and/or babies. We recommend that you get your next pet from a rescue centre. This will not fund people who breed their animals for money reguardless of the risk to the animal and also you know that these people will have your pets best interests at heart.
